TIBCO Software provides infrastructure and business intelligence (BI) solutions to many verticals including financial services, communications, energy, retail, transportation and logistics, manufacturing, insurance, and government. The company ranked 93 in the 2014 Software 500, reporting $1.07B in total revenue.
Its 10th annual user conference took place at the Marriott Marquis in San Francisco, CA from November 3 to 5, 2014. TIBCO NOW—formerly the TUCON user conference, and co-located with its Analytics NOW conference—hosted more than 25 partners. The company reports a record-breaking attendance for this year’s event, a 20 percent increase from 2013 and almost 40 percent higher than 2012.
Event Happenings
A variety of keynote speakers addressed conference-goers throughout the three-day event. Vivek Ranadivé, founder/former CEO, TIBCO Software Inc., kicked off the first day’s general session, which included guest speakers Malcolm Gladwell, Marc Andreessen, Aaron Levie, and Mitch Barns. San Francisco mayor, Ed Lee, also dropped in to welcome attendees to the city.
The second day commenced with another general session, which included the company’s inaugural TIBCO Trailblazer Awards, presented by Raj Verma, EVP, worldwide sales, TIBCO. The awards recognize organizations that leverage TIBCO technology in inspiring ways. Categories and winners include the Innovator Award to General Mills, Impact Award to JetBlue, Pioneer Award to SofTrek Corporation, and Visionary Award to U.K. mobile network operator Three.
At the event, the company also announced the recipients of its annual Partner Excellence Awards and recognition for TIBCO’s strategic Alliance Partners from 2014. The TIBCO Partner Network Program provides several opportunities for system integrators, solution providers, channel partners, distributors, and technology partners to engage with the company and its customers.
The list of this year’s awards and recipients include, Business Innovation Award – Global Telecommunications 2014: Ericsson; Business Innovation Excellence Award – B2B/MFT 2014: Wipro; Business Innovation Excellence Award – Client Onboarding (COB) 2014: KPMG; Business Innovation Excellence Award – Latin America 2014: Emersys De Mexico, S.A. de C.V.; Business Innovation Excellence Award 2014: BULL (An Atos Company); Customer Deployment Excellence Award 2014: Behaim IT Solutions; Customer Deployment Excellence Award 2014: Logimethods; and Partner Excellence Award 2014: HCL Technologies.
In addition to general session and keynote speakers, attendees could choose from two informative break out session tracks—TIBCO NOW and Analytics NOW, and a breadth of breakout sessions on topics including business process management, integration, shared platform services, information management, disruptive innovation, as well as Spotfire and Jaspersoft.
Solution Updates
Throughout the event, TIBCO introduced and displayed many new and updated offerings within its portfolio.
Fast data was an apparent trend throughout the event, representing the next phase of analytics capabilities where businesses can monitor and react to data in real time. According to the company, products and services based on TIBCO’s fast data platform enable businesses worldwide to turn big data into a usable asset.
To illustrate its commitment to next-generation BI, the company announced a new version of its fast data platform, an infrastructure that enables users to comprehend and act on business data, whether it is on premise or in the cloud, from big data, or the Internet of Things. A combination of integration, analytics, and event processing allows users to make sense of huge volumes of data as events occur.
To complement the latest version of its fast data platform, the company announced and demonstrated enhancements including cross-platform integration for TIBCO FTL, native integration of TIBCO Enterprise Runtime for R with TIBCO StreamBase, support for a range of opensource connectors, and TIBCO Live Datamart support for HTML 5.
Enhancements to TIBCO’s ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks 6.2 accelerate development with a new, Software as a Service plug-in for Salesforce.com, Marketo, and Microsoft Dynamics CRM, which can be downloaded directly from the Integrated Development Environment (IDE). The update is designed to improve the quality and automation of products due to the availability of testing and continuous integration plugins. Additionally, users are able to deploy directly to Amazon Cloud within the IDE.
TIBCO ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1 now offers JasperReports Server for ActiveMatrix BPM, providing out-of-the-box adaptable dashboards for all styles of business processes and changing data.
TIBCO MDM Studio 4.0 is updated to enable customers to build custom applications (apps) and user interfaces for the management of master data. To reduce complexity of Master Data Management (MDM), the company also released ready-to-use templates for managing customers in a B2B and B2C context, as well as industry templates—such as SID—for telecoms.
The release of TIBCO LogLogic 6 introduces many features designed to simplify the process of deriving value from machine data for compliance, security, and operational intelligence.
Additionally, the company launched TIBCO Simplr, a new service that allows users to connect and share data between popular apps such as Salesforce and Marketo, social networks, or Web analytic services such as TIBCO Spotfire Cloud. Ready-to-use “recipes” are available, as well as the option for users to create their own, providing a way to simply define how to integrate data without any infrastructure.
Engagement Enhancement
Part of the second day’s general session focused on a new feature within TIBCO’s Engage platform, TIBCO EngagementFlows. The new capability allows marketers to provide personalized content, offers, and messaging based on recent customer activity, historical interactions, inventory, and external data. It also now allows businesses to leverage geo-location and beacon technology through a partnership with Gimbal.
TIBCO EnagementFlows is designed to connect marketers with consumers based on set triggers, such as social media activity, customer behavior, and location.
Analytic Vision
The company also released its vision for the TIBCO Analytics platform and previewed new solutions and updates for TIBCO Spotfire and TIBCO Jaspersoft. The latest updates are meant to make enterprise data more easily and readily acceptable to users, no matter where they are and what app they are working in.
The company announced specific advancements within the TIBCO Analytics portfolio, which will be available to new and existing customers by the end of 2014.
TIBCO Jaserpersoft 6 includes a new dashboard designer that provides developers with a faster and easier way to build and deploy using a new version of its embeddable BI framework, Visualize.js.
A TIBCO Spotfire Cloud update includes Recommendations, a new intelligence analytics recommendation engine designed for business users that need to analyze data but are not experts in analytic techniques.
The company also announced Spotfire and Jaspersoft interoperability, which over time, means customers will be able to increasingly combine Jaspersoft’s BI platform with the data visualization capabilities of Spotfire. Early examples of interoperability include broadening the reach of insight from Spotfire through Jaspersoft’s reporting platform and enriching Jaspersoft reports with Spotfire GeoAnatlyics’ map-based visualizations.
The company also announced the availability of Spotfire through Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace, which gives users data visualization in a pay-as-you-go basis for Amazon Redshift and more. Additionally, Jaspersoft on AWS Marketplace now includes the addition of a new annual subscription with professional support to complement its hourly service.
Finally, TIBCO Metrics is a beta platform for a new cloud-based TIBCO Metrics offering, which delivers KPIs for every decision maker in an organization and is viewable on any device. Delivered as a cloud service, TIBCO Metrics is designed to make it easier to author, monitor, and manage business metrics.
