The Project Management Institute (PMI) recently announced that it is making significant changes to its PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)® exam. PMI will begin administering the updated exam July 15, 2015.
The changes to the exam include the addition of a new domain (Agile Principles and Mindset), and the validation of 62 tasks as they apply to the seven domains of practice. PMI made these updates in response to a Role Delineation Study of over 1,000 certified and non-certified agile practitioners from 60 countries. This survey validated revisions to domains, tasks, knowledge, and skills addressed in the PMI-ACP® exam.
Debuting just over three years ago, the PMI-ACP® has been the fastest growing PMI certification, far exceeding the growth of PMI’s Risk Management, Scheduling, Program Management and other certifications. “That’s for good reason” says Michelle LaBrosse, Founder and CEO of Cheetah Learning “as it is not based on one specific methodology, but is flexible and adaptable so you can easily transfer agile practices and principals across industries, geographic locations, and various markets.”
LaBrosse sees PMI’s updates to the PMI-ACP® exam as a step in the right direction that will ensure the certification reflects the most up-to-date standards, principles, and practices of the Project Management and Agile communities. “Clearly, with PMI’s continued attention to the PMI-ACP® certification, it is not going away but only will continue to grow, and the information needed to pass the exam as well as the exam itself will only get more robust,” said LaBrosse.
“At Cheetah Learning, we are lucky enough to have developed our own agile body of knowledge of sorts to assist folks with the exam,” said LaBrosse, “and we are anxiously waiting to see if and how PMI will pull together all the resources they recommend into a single body of knowledge.”Cheetah Learning will continue to offer PMI-ACP® exam preparation classes after PMI implements its changes to the exam.
PMI will offer a 20% rebate on the updated PMI-ACP® exam for people who take the exam during the pilot period, July 15, 2015 to August 16, 2015. All students who take the updated exam between July 15, 2015 and October 14, 2015 will not receive their scores until October 22, 2015. This is a change from the current PMI-ACP® exam, in which students receive their scores immediately after testing. Beginning on October 15, 2015, exam takers will again receive their scores immediately after testing.
