Lightbend today announced that Lightbend Fast Data Platform is generally available on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, bringing the first end-to-end developer and operations platform for Reactive microservices and streaming architectures to the OpenShift / Kubernetes cloud-native stack. Lightbend is the company behind the Scala programming language, the pioneer of the Reactive movement, and the creator of popular open source technologies used by millions of Java and Scala developers to build distributed, cloud-native applications. With digital transformation driving the need for enterprises to deploy and manage these applications across hybrid cloud and multi-cloud infrastructures, many are turning to OpenShift as their container orchestration platform of choice.
Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and Internet of Things are among a surge of real-time data use cases at the top of the enterprise cloud-native agenda. In a recent Lightbend survey, more than 75% of the 2,400 developers polled revealed that they are already using or planning to use microservices to enable real-time streaming data use cases.
Lightbend Fast Data Platform is the first complete enterprise platform for building and operating Reactive microservices-based systems for real-time data use cases. Now fully certified to run on Red Hat OpenShift, Lightbend Fast Data Platform gives enterprise operators a reliable and scalable approach to managing real-time workloads in production on cloud-native architectures.
“Lightbend’s technologies are used by millions of developers in the JVM ecosystem, and there has been intense demand for OpenShift support for Lightbend Platforms,” said Mark Brewer, CEO at Lightbend. “New AI, ML and IoT systems are being built as microservices with streaming data. To meet user demand and scale in production, they must be Reactive–elastic, responsive and resilient. Lightbend Fast Data Platform brings these application-level performance guarantees to developers and operators, and is now available for deployment on Red Hat OpenShift, which we believe has clearly emerged as the industry standard for Kubernetes workloads. The combination of Lightbend Fast Data Platform and OpenShift is the fast lane to developer and operator success with the new class of applications and systems designed for real-time use cases in the cloud.”
