Established in 1998, Comodo is a private company based in Clifton, NJ. As a global cybersecurity company, Comodo is dedicated to creating trust online for consumers and businesses. The company employs over 1,100 individuals in eight locations. It does not publically disclose its annual revenue.
Comodo’s Threat Research Labs analyze over ten million potential pieces of phishing, spam, and other malicious and unwanted emails per day. The company secures more than 85 million consumer devices and has over 700,000 business customers and 8,000 global partners and affiliates.
Buket Baran, product manager, Comodo, says the company is the number one issuer of website security certificates in the world.
Comodo Internet Security 10
Launched in December 2016, Comodo Internet Security (CIS) 10 is a free protection product, upgraded to offer a powerful shield that serves as a buffer against malware attacks. It is intended for B2C industries and is currently free.
“This unique tool provides extreme security for online banking and shopping for browsers and any regular application through features including Secure Shopping, Unblock Application, and Virtual Desktop, which can be easily customized to suit a range of cybersecurity needs,” says Baran.
Comodo’s default-deny security posture is designed to be user-friendly and dependable to provide seamless protection. The software provides a trust verdict of 100 percent of files and eliminate false positives and blocks zero-day attacks.
CIS was in development for a year. During this time, the company worked on improvements and hot fixes for the previous CIS 8 version.
Comodo upgraded CIS due to concerns of CPU-enforced virtualization for unknown files. “Today, end users need a security solution that will protect them from zero-day attacks and all unknown files,” explains Baran.
With this capability, end users get the flexibility to run malicious and unknown files freely and inside a virtual environment that doesn’t cause the system harm. Unknown files are sent to the Comodo file analysis lab for 100 percent trusted verdicts powered by artificial intelligence and Comodo’s human analysis system.
Secure Shopping
Comodo also created CIS 10 to secure online shopping. According to Baran, “as the revenues from online sales continue to grow significantly and online shopping becomes the first choice for consumers, users are now at a higher risk of fraud from different types of attacks.” Secure Shopping enables a full online protection with shields and protects end users online and offline.
Its features allow users to open online banking and shopping websites in a secured environment—unable to be hacked, tracked, or viewed by internet thieves or malware. Baran says that this feature isolates browsing sessions from all other processes on the PC, prevents key-loggers from recording keystrokes, warns users if there is a remote connection to their computer, stops hackers and malware from taking screenshots, and detects fake SSL certificates to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks.
Remote Connection Protection alerts users if CIS detects a remote connection during a Secure Shopping session. Screenshot Protection black-outs screenshots taken on the Secure Shopping environment—preventing hackers and malware from possessing screen captures of sensitive online information.
Top Security
CIS 10 includes the Unblock Application capability to solve roadblocks created by security software. “As many internet users experience, there are times when attempting to run a program, the security software puts up a roadblock and stops it. Maybe it is the firewall or the antivirus, but if they are certain they want to process, the Unblock Application allows the user to quickly and easily release programs from the security component that has blocked them,” explains Baran.
Virtual Desktop provides the ability to virtualize operating systems. Baran says that it creates a safe play zone for children and users to download games or run applications. It also monitors wallpaper management, font sizes, and other settings that pickup viruses. The Virtual Desktop allows inside content reset—eliminating malicious applications and files.
“With the help of sandbox technology, the device will function smoothly as applications run in a virtual environment, locking the harmful application or file and all threats into a virtual jail,” says Baran.
CIS 10 also features new user interface themes for simplicity and usability, internet security essentials like real-time SSL certificate checker, web installers to keep up-to-date on CIS versions, and file-less malware protection that uses script interpreters to execute code through commandline.
The CIS complete package version integrates with Acronis-supported 50GB cloud backup system to back up files to a secure online virtual vault. It includes 50GB of free backup space.
Secure Yourself
Security breaches are a constant concern for consumers and businesses. CIS 10 is designed to keep computers secure and operating to full capacity.
