AppDirect, the leader in cloud service commerce, today announced its acquisition of AppCarousel, the leading provider of app management platforms for connected cars and fleets, smartphones, smart screens, tablets, and other connected devices. The acquisition will support AppDirect’s rapidly growing mobile business while also enhancing its Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities. AppCarousel will continue to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of AppDirect.
Founded in 2011, AppCarousel delivers and operates curated marketplaces, developer programs and commerce solutions for some of the most established electronics, automotive, hardware and technology brands in the world. Since its inception, AppCarousel’s business has increased at an annual growth rate of more than 70 percent while its staff has grown to more than 80 employees, all of whom will remain with the company. Bringing the AppCarousel team and technology to AppDirect will power a critical part of today’s hyper-connected cloud service commerce ecosystem and enable businesses to deliver applications to their customers.
“AppCarousel has built an amazing business delivering applications to a wide range of smart screens, in-car technology and home entertainment devices,” said Daniel Saks, AppDirect’s President and Co-CEO. “AppDirect’s mission has always been to help people find, buy and use the software they need, and as of today that includes software on virtually any connected device.”
“We’re thrilled to be joining the AppDirect team,” said Emanuel Bertolin, CEO of AppCarousel. “Working together with AppDirect means we can jointly tackle two massive markets, cloud service commerce and the Internet of Things, by helping businesses manage and monetize software across platforms and devices.”
With a global team servicing customers around the world, AppDirect and AppCarousel can help businesses deploy white-label app and cloud service marketplaces, direct billing and distribution services, and reseller management services, as well as enable businesses that have unique and custom needs for their app ecosystems.
“The emergence of connected devices and the Internet of Things is opening up a brand new opportunity for both developer ecosystems and app distribution,” said Brad Feld of Foundry Group, an AppDirect investor. “As the adoption of connected devices increases, the need for application lifecycle management and distribution is critical. This acquisition will enable AppDirect to grow as the underlying platform behind the app economy.”
