Established in 2013, Imanis Data, previously Talena, is a private software company headquartered in San Jose, CA with 50 employees. It does not disclose revenue information. The company develops data backup and recovery software with built in machine learning for massive data sets like terabytes and petabytes using mission-critical applications on top of modern data platforms like DataStax, Couchbase, and Vertica.

The company backs up and recovers terabyte and petabyte-size data sets while minimizing the impact of data loss associated with human and application errors.
Imanis Data’s customers include Fortune 500 business in retail, financial services, and travel industries.
The company rebranded as Imanis Data and launched Imanis Data 3.0 in August 2017. “Immanis means immense in Latin and we felt that Imanis Data immediately conveys both the market we serve—big/modern data platforms—as well as our key technical advantages around scale and performance,” says Donde.
Imanis 3.0
Launched on August 8, 2017, Imanis 3.0 is a backup and recovery platform for large data sets. The company claims to allow early detection of ransomware attacks and identifies accidental data loss to reduce downtime to minutes and hours.
“Imanis Data 3.0 can recover huge data sets for modern data platforms such as Cassandra, Couchbase, MongoDB, and Hadoop at a granular level five to ten times faster than any alternative in the market, minimizing downtime to quickly get enterprises back in business and saving companies up to 80 percent on secondary storage costs,” says Donde.
The software’s machine learning capabilities allow early detection of ransomware attacks while immediately notifying the users about accidental data loss. It enables companies to easily manage rapidly growing data sets for modern data platforms by scaling.
According to Donde, customers can save up to 80 percent on secondary storage costs by using Imanis Data’s smart storage architecture. It is a cloud-ready solution with cloud-based data replication for cross-region disaster recovery support and native support for cloud storage options.
Donde says Imanis Data can be live in environments in less than two hours and once installed in the data center or in the cloud, there are three steps users take to ensure a fully functioning platform. These include connecting to production databases, define policies that schedule the frequency of backups and workflows, and create the workflows themselves.
“All of this can be done via the Imanis user interface or via our REST-based API. Once Imanis Data is live, users monitor everything via our intuitive dashboard,” offers Donde. Imanis 3.0 is a subscription model based on the data amount that Imanis Data manages. It is currently available for purchase.

Imanis Data 3.0 was in development for four months and is a good candidate for companies that have deployed one of the modern data sources Imanis Data supports. The company has seen traction in financial services, insurance, retail, life sciences, and technology industries.
