Alison, one of the world’s largest providers of free online courses, has announced the launch of a series of courses introducing learners to the principles of data science. Students can take Introduction to Data Science, Working With Data, and Visualizing Data and Exploring Models.
Eric Corbett, Course Publishing Manager at Alison, said: “Aimed at learners who have some knowledge of algebra and R or Python programming, these courses combine to give learners a comprehensive introduction to the principles of data science, including converting or mapping data, handling errors and outliers in your project, scaling, exploratory data analysis and data visualization, and applying visualizations to display your data.”
In the final course, Visualizing Data and Exploring Models, learners are given a strong background in the functions of exploratory data analysis and what factors can affect your views of data. The course will also cover the different types of charts that can be used to visualize data, and the libraries and packages available for R and Python for visualizing data.
Andy Madigan, Head of Technology at Alison, said: “These skills are only going to become more important as Big Data takes on greater significance for businesses worldwide. A solid understanding of how to visualize data and map it is an important skill for programmers to have.”
Alison has a wide variety of courses available for those who are interested in programming, including Python, R, Java and C#. The site recently celebrated ten million users globally, and launched a brand new personalized platform for its learners.
