Founded in 1993, Absolute Software began with the notion that individuals and businesses should be able to manage, track, and secure mobile computers no matter where a device is physically located. The company is headquartered in Vancouver, BC, Canada, with regional headquarters located in Austin, TX in the U.S. and Reading, England in the U.K.
The company ranks number 305 on the 2013 Software 500, reporting $74.560 million in revenue for the 2012 fiscal year—a 9.68 percent growth rate from the previous year.
Absolute achieved certification in March 2009 for ISO/IEC 27001 Information Security Management for its production of IT operations for customers. The standard covers 10 detailed control categories including information security policy, personnel security, security organization, communication management, access controls, asset classification controls, system deployment, physical security, continuity planning, and compliance.
Presently, the company’s security-as-a-service solutions safeguard millions of computers worldwide, with subscribers ranging from personal use to large organizations in the public and private sector.
Continuing in its strides to offer security to mobile computing users, Absolute Software released the Absolute Safe Schools program this fall. The new program is an Integrated Student and Device Protection Solution for Mobile Student Computing
Absolute Safe Schools
Following a development period, which started in the summer of 2012, Absolute Software announced the launch of their new program, Absolute Safe Schools, on October 8, 2013. The program is an all-inclusive solution that protects students and the community by keeping them safe while securing mobile devices through protection and recovery.
Because mobile computing and devices are becoming a prominent component of education, and students have personal mobile devices, many schools find the need to inform students of safe use. Absolute Software now offers a security solution for kindergarten through grade 12.
The Absolute Safe Schools solution educates students, staff, and parents on how to prevent themselves from becoming easy targets for criminals. The program provides the community with best practices and safe actions to follow when carrying mobile devices, including safety tips, onsite safety education sessions, videos featuring the Absolute Investigation and Recovery Services team, theft prevention resources, and a toll-free theft tip line.
The Absolute Investigations team embodies approximately 1,000 years of combined experience in law enforcement. Before joining Absolute, the team’s members came from backgrounds such as police agencies, the FBI, the Marines, the U.S. Army, Homeland Security, and other government positions.
Absolute Safe Schools operates in union with Absolute Software’s established theft-recovery software—Absolute Computrace and Computrace Mobile Theft Management. The Absolute Safe Schools solution delivers rapid response resources after the theft of a protected device and the Absolute Investigations and Recovery Services team will conduct an investigation, working with local law enforcement to recover devices utilizing recognized investigative methods and technology.
The program is currently available.
Securing Schools and Students
To assist schools in protecting teachers, students, and the community at large from device theft and harm Absolute Software spent time developing the Safe Schools solution. The program’s benefits include defending students, lessening crime on school property and the surrounding community, decreasing the IT department’s time spent on incident management, and conserving IT budgets by reducing overall loss and theft.
