Troux Provides Business Intelligence for the CIO

Troux Technologies has released what it calls the first actionable enterprise architecture platform, providing business intelligence for the CIO and IT teams. The platform effectively creates a model of the enterprise and then details how all of the things in the model relate to one another. In that way, it addresses what was missing for most CIOs: understanding the current state of the enterprise.

“It’s not just about modeling; it’s about being able to understand scenarios about the current and future states [of the enterprise] and doing business intelligence and analytics so an organization can align and make iterative steps,” notes James Rogers, chief marketing officer for Troux.

The platform is actionable in the sense that it provides the ability to understand how things are related not only to one another, but also to the entire organization and to strategic initiatives. It consists of three core components.

Metis Architect, the modeling interface, offers both read-only visual models and dynamic models. It features a model browser, annotator, editor, designer, and developer as well as a data import facility.

Metis Server, the metadata repository and reporting capability, collects data in real time from multiple domains across the enterprise and compiles it into a single model. The Datamart Generator lies at the heart of Metis Server and leverages the Cognos ReportNet reporting system to create snapshots of subsets of Metis Server data, thus providing visibility for every person in the organization. Metis Server features the Metis enterprise repository, enterprise architecture framework, information portal and reporting as well as a policy manager and a workflow engine.

Metis Collection is the automatic collection capability.

The Datamart Generator allows users to drag and drop information from the repository into datamarts that then use Cognos business intelligence capabilities to do queries, analysis and reports on that information and push it to portals and dashboards. “With the Datamart Generator, we allow someone with junior-grade DBA skills to look at relationships and define relationships they’re interested in, then take those and exploit them to a datamart, and our system automatically builds a business intelligence model,” Rogers explains.

The platform is priced by seat, by architect. The average price for an initial implementation for an enterprise architecture team of five to 25 people costs approximately $200,000 for licensing, training and services.
