Attachmate is shipping DATABridge 5.0, an “all-in-one” extract, transform and load application that integrates critical information for business intelligence and securely integrates Unisys MCP DMSII and non-DMSII data to a secondary system, according to company officials.
The application includes a hosted component, DATABridge Plus, which enables real-time replication of DMSII databases. “With standard DATABridge, DMSII database updates are provided to the target database after the current audit file has been closed,” notes Debbie Kappl, Attachmate’s product marketing manager. “To speed up the data-replication process, DATABridge can provide continuous database updates between DMSII audit file closures — providing real-time data for decision support, Web access and other data access needs.”
The product allows extraction, transformation and loading to take place simultaneously, without additional utilities, thus the “all-in-one” label. It conserves host resources while making information easily accessible for processing and analyzing for business intelligence.
“Database administrators have complete control over what gets extracted because DATABridge provides granular filtering both at the data source and the data target,” Kappl says. The product also supports cascade filtering, making it possible for administrators to filter at multiple levels.
Version 5.0 includes DATABridge Enterprise Server (DBE), which the company says conserves mainframe resources by offloading current host processing to a Windows server. DBE can be installed on either the server portion of a Unisys MCP hosted mainframe or on a separate machine.
DBE resides between the DATABridge Host and the user’s choice of DATABridge clients, performing all host-related processing and I/O operations before sending data on to client systems, Kappl says. DBE also provides a GUI for viewing various sources and database layouts.
How will DATABridge 5.0 impact application development? Kappl says, “Replicating MCP host data to a development system safeguards the transaction processing of the production system and protects data integrity by enabling developers access to a mirror image of production data.” Developers also can configure DATABridge to replicate only selected portions of the database, Kappl adds.
Pricing starts at $60,000 for a server installation.
