ViaWest Accelerates Customer Adoption of Cloud Services with VMware Network Virtualization

VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, today announced colocation and cloud service provider ViaWest is
using VMware network virtualization to enable faster service provisioning, simplified management and greater flexibility and choice in service options for
customers. VMware network virtualization provides ViaWest with a more efficient way of deploying cloud services than traditional hardware-defined networking
approaches, leading to lower overall costs and a more consistent customer experience.

“Our customers are embracing the business advantages of cloud services, and our networking infrastructure must keep up with rapidly changing cloud
requirements,” said Jason Carolan, Chief Technology Officer at ViaWest. “We’ve found it’s impossible to effectively run new cloud services based solely on old,
hardware-focused networking technologies. The dynamic nature of our cloud services requires the agility and automation made possible by VMware network
virtualization.”

ViaWest is one of the largest privately-held data center, cloud computing and managed service providers in North America. VMware network virtualization
enables ViaWest to dynamically create virtual networks that are completely decoupled and independent from the physical network hardware. This provides
ViaWest with operational simplicity to support new and existing applications in a non-disruptive way, without modification to the underlying network hardware.
Network virtualization reduces the time it takes ViaWest to roll out new services, or upgrade an existing customer’s specific service offering, from days or weeks
to hours. ViaWest has reduced both operational and capital costs by making more efficient use of network resources such as IP addresses, and by no longer
being locked in to any single vendor’s networking hardware.

“Applications are the engine driving the pace of innovation, and the network is one of the last barriers preventing the delivery of applications and services with
the speed at which companies operate,” said Hatem Naguib, vice president of Cloud Networking and Security at VMware. “ViaWest is helping networking catch
up to the 21st Century and helping to reduce cost and complexity with network virtualization. Leading cloud service providers recognize that the software-
defined data center is a powerful platform for developing innovative and differentiated services, and ViaWest is delivering this value to customers.”

“By fulfilling our promise to deliver VMware vSphere® support in OpenStack, and teaming with Canonical to serve our collective customers, we’re delivering
customer choice by providing a powerful platform for those interested in OpenStack clouds,” Joshua Goodman, vice president, Product Management, vSphere,
VMware. “Canonical’s Ubuntu technology is widely used by those deploying OpenStack, and joint customers will be able leverage the familiar and proven
capabilities of the vSphere infrastructure in which they’ve already invested.”

As part of the OpenStack “Grizzly” release on April 4, 2013, VMware contributed code to add vSphere support to the OpenStack Compute project (codenamed
“Nova”). These contributions were built on VMware’s existing leadership in the OpenStack Networking project (codenamed “Quantum”), which focused on Nicira
NVP. Canonical and VMware will collaborate on software testing, deployment automation, customer support and reference designs. Additionally, VMware’s
continued support of Ubuntu as a guest OS on vSphere enables customers to run production workloads at the highest virtual machine densities on the world’s
most battle-tested hypervisor platform.

“Customers in both enterprise and carrier markets are eager to deploy OpenStack in conjunction with their existing VMware vSphere® infrastructure,” said Chris
Kenyon, senior vice president, Sales and Business Development, Canonical. “This joint offering will be a fully supported and certified solution for OpenStack

VMware Unveils VMware Horizon Suite, Industry’s Most Comprehensive Platform for Workforce Mobility

VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, today unveiled the VMware® Horizon Suite™, a comprehensive platform
for workforce mobility that will connect end users to their data, applications and desktops on any device without sacrificing IT security and control. With updates
to VMware Horizon View™ and VMware Horizon Mirage™, as well as a new product, VMware Horizon Workspace™, the VMware Horizon Suite will enable IT
organizations to empower users with a secure, easy-to-manage virtual workspace that delivers a consistent, compelling experience across devices.

“Our customers are looking for a comprehensive, enterprise-class solution to empower workers in a world where the proliferation of devices and consumer cloud
services have changed user expectations, while putting IT security and governance at risk,” said Boaz Chalamish, senior vice president and general manager,
End-User Computing, VMware. “VMware virtualization has helped hundreds of thousands of customers change what is possible in the datacenter, and we
believe it can have the same transformative impact in end-user computing. The VMware® Horizon™ Suite will help our customers accelerate their journeys from
the PC Era to the Multi-Device Era.”

A report by Forrester Research Inc. finds the use of personal devices outside of IT control alarming — with 67 percent of employees using personally selected
smartphones and 46 percent using personally selected laptops – none of which were approved or issued by the company . And, a recent survey by VMware
found that 83 percent of IT administrators wanted to prevent the use of consumer online storage and collaboration applications . The VMware Horizon Suite is
designed to solve the security and governance challenges these consumer-ready applications and devices bring to enterprises, enabling IT to meet the
demands of their users with a virtual workspace that is secure, compliant and easy to manage.

“Instead of treating remote work styles as an exception, success at Jaguar Land Rover will mean designing systems and policies assuming that everyone is
mobile, using multiple personal devices connecting over both local and global networks,” said Gordon McMullan, acting chief technology officer, Chief
Information Technology Office, Jaguar Land Rover Automotive. “VMware's Horizon Suite is at the heart of this capability. This will dramatically improve
collaboration and productivity of our global workforce.”

Single, Unified Platform for End-User Computing
The VMware Horizon Suite will bring together VMware’s industry-leading desktop virtualization solution and technologies VMware has built from the ground up to
support a mobile, collaborative workforce, including Project Octopus, Project AppBlast, Project AppShift, VMware ThinApp®, VMware Horizon Application
Manager™ and VMware Horizon Mobile™ into a single, unified solution. An integrated platform to support the mobile workforce, the VMware Horizon Suite is
designed to transform technology silos of data, applications and desktops into centralized IT services that can be easily provisioned, managed and delivered to
end-users. It includes:

VMware Horizon Workspace – The New Virtual Workspace
Today, VMware introduced Horizon Workspace, a new product that will simplify the end-user experience and reduce IT costs by combining data, applications
and desktops into a single aggregated workspace, that can be securely delivered on any device.

With VMware Horizon Workspace, IT administrators will be able to allocate data, applications or desktops to end users or groups instead of their devices, and
end users will be able to self-provision corporate applications and services to reduce the burden on IT. This enables a quick and responsive IT department that
can deliver the right data, application or desktop to any device, on the fly. Horizon Workspace will also enable organizations to easily add new devices, users or
applications without having to reconfigure the devices or endpoints. In addition, centralized management simplifies the enforcement and management of user
policies so the entire solution will enhance safety and security.

VMware Horizon View 5.2 – Easy-to-Use and Simple-to-Manage VDI
Transforming traditional physical PCs into centralized managed IT services, VMware Horizon View 5.2 will deliver elastic desktop services as a virtual workspace
for ultimate control and flexibility for user experience, administration and service. New simplified access to remote Horizon View desktops using any HTML 5
capable browser will enable end users to conveniently access their virtual desktop and applications on any device without having to install burdensome client
software ahead of time. Support for hardware-accelerated 3-D graphics will enable the most graphically intensive applications to run inside virtual desktops,
opening new industries such as CAD (computer assisted design) and CAM (computer assisted manufacturing) to VDI. Lastly, Horizon View 5.2 with Unity will
offer a new intuitive, gesture-oriented interface to transform your Windows mobile environment into a tablet-friendly user experience.

VMware Horizon Mirage 4 – A Better Physical Desktop
VMware Horizon Mirage 4 will provide an optimal end-user experience for both online and offline productivity while lowering IT costs with zero-touch
management of desktop services. Horizon Mirage is a layered image management solution that separates the PC into logical layers owned and managed by
either IT or the end user. Horizon Mirage 4 will give IT the ability to update individual layers without disruption to other layers, thus enabling end-user data and
applications to be up to date. In addition, integration with VMware ThinApp application virtualization streamlines application packaging, which can enable
smoother OS migrations and provide “roll-back” capabilities in case of failure or disaster. VMware Horizon Mirage 4 also extends support for virtual Windows
on Macs with a free bundle of VMware Fusion® Professional, improving end user productivity.

Moving From the PC Era to the Multi-Device Era with VMware Professional Services
VMware Professional Services can help customers accelerate their move to the multi-device era with consulting services for VMware Horizon Suite. VMware
Professional Services Consultants bring the expertise and know-how to customers to efficiently design and implement the solution to deliver business results.

Pricing and Availability
VMware Horizon Suite is expected to be available in Q1 2013 and customers will have the option to leverage the entire platform of integrated products or
purchase and deploy specific capabilities of the platform depending on their organizational needs.

VMware Network Virtualization Paves the Way for Next Generation Cloud Services at iland

VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, today announced another example of the adoption of network
virtualization in the market. iland, a global cloud infrastructure provider and the VMware Service Provider Partner of the Year Global 2012, has taken advantage
of VMware network virtualization to reduce operational costs and increase service velocity.

“As we explored building and delivering new, value-added cloud services, we realized the tremendous flexibility, operational efficiency and time-to-market
benefits to be gained through network virtualization,” said Justin Giardina, CTO of iland Internet Solutions. “Just as server virtualization changed the way we
delivered compute resources, network virtualization has transformed the way we deliver network services by removing the challenges we faced when bound to
the physical network.”

Network virtualization addresses one of the final barriers to achieving the agility of cloud computing – the network – by enabling the dynamic creation of virtual
networks that are completely decoupled and independent from the physical network hardware. Much like server virtualization decouples virtual machines (VMs)
from the underlying x86 server hardware to transform the operational model of compute, network virtualization decouples software-based virtual networks from
the underlying network hardware to enable a new operational model for networking. Deployed non-disruptively on any existing network without change, network
virtualization transforms the physical network into a pool of capacity that can be consumed and repurposed on demand.

“iland is at the forefront of our customers’ transformation to software-defined datacenters,” said Hatem Naguib, vice president, Cloud Networking and Security,
VMware. “iland demonstrates that clouds built to leverage the operational model of virtualization across all datacenter assets – compute, storage and network –
can deliver agility and operational efficiency not previously possible.”

VMware network virtualization solutions include the VMware vCloud® Suite, which incorporates VMware’s leading virtualization, cloud infrastructure and
management portfolio into a single SKU, and the Nicira Network Virtualization Platform (NVP) which delivers network virtualization in multi-hypervisor
environments. Both are key components of VMware’s software-defined datacenter architecture which enables pooling of industry-standard hardware through
virtualization to help organizations achieve the agility, efficiency and intelligent operations management of cloud computing.

Customers Transform IT with VMware vCloud

VMware and Service Providers Enable Customers Across Industries to Successfully Accelerate Delivery of Reliable, High-Performance Secure Clouds

VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, today announced continued momentum of its customers deploying public
and hybrid clouds based on VMware cloud solutions. VMware vCloud® technologies and cloud services enable customers to achieve a wide range of business
benefits such as reduced IT costs, improved security and increased flexibility.

"VMware customers are looking to deploy reliable, high-performance, secure clouds that are compatible with their existing applications and datacenter
operations. VMware and its partners are uniquely positioned to deliver this,” said Mathew Lodge, vice president, cloud services, VMware. “Today VMware has
the broadest cloud ecosystem and the rapid adoption of vCloud services by customers – triple digit growth in year-over-year VSPP bookings in 2011 and 2012 to
date -- is a true testament to the value that the vCloud ecosystem delivers.”

VMware and its service providers cater to a variety of use cases ranging from compute resources for pre-production environments to seasonal and transient
workloads to disaster recovery in the cloud. VMware customers who have recently adopted cloud computing to transform their IT environments include
Columbia Sportswear Company, eMix (Electronic Medical Information Exchange), Star Alliance and Subaru of America, Inc.

Columbia Sportswear Company
Based in Portland, Oregon, Columbia Sportswear is the worldwide leader in outerwear, sportswear apparel and accessories and has over 4,000 employees and
50 locations. Nearly 100 percent virtualized, Columbia Sportswear first looked to the public cloud to have the option of moving workloads outside the facility to
prevent downtime during disasters or datacenter moves. They wanted the flexibility to move workloads seamlessly from their private cloud to their vCloud-based
ecosystem provider.

Two real-life scenarios that Columbia experienced reinforced the need for a cloud model centered on the Japanese tsunami in 2011, which caused continuous
power outages to their Tokyo-based facility. First, had a cloud model been in place, the ability to move the data out of the region temporarily would have
improved operations and allowed for local staff to access their data remotely. Second, office and datacenter moves shouldn’t necessarily affect access to data
and therefore, the need to temporarily park workloads somewhere else without disruption would have allowed for greater productivity. Columbia Sportswear now
moves workloads seamlessly from their private cloud to their vCloud provider, having control of where workloads live.

“We are very pleased with how easy it has been to deploy VMware vCloud to meet our rapidly growing business requirements, allowing us to scale instantly and
reduce infrastructure costs,” said Michael Leeper, senior manager, global IT engineering, Columbia Sportswear Company.

eMix
Tasked with providing a highly available, secure platform for hospital providers to share medical information, eMix is replacing the need for CDs, DVDs and VPN
connections, bringing healthcare communications into the 21st century on the foundation of VMware vCloud. eMix collaborated with iLand, 2012 “Global
Service Provider Partner of the Year,” to build a public cloud solution that provides massive scalability as well as a holistic approach to security when
exchanging medical imaging data between proprietary IT systems. One eMix customer reported an average savings of $14,000- $18,000 per emergency room
visit as a result of the cloud.

“The importance of having VMware compatibility and the need to partner with a service provider that can address HIPAA compliancy was a priority when
considering a cloud solution,” said Florent Saint-Clair, vice president, corporate development, DR Systems and general manager, eMix (division of DR Systems).
“With VMware’s vCloud solution the adoption curve has been accelerating tremendously, and we expect that the growth over the past two years, which was
from zero to five hundred customers, will accelerate even further.”

VMware customers to share their cloud stories at VMworld
IT executives from Fortune 1000 and mid-market companies using VMware vCloud will gather on stage at VMworld in San Francisco, Calif. on Aug. 27, 2012 at
2:30 PM to discuss why they chose a hybrid cloud solution and share their use cases and deployment outcomes, including infrastructure, security, provider
selection, and results. The session, “Industry Leaders Share the Impact of Their Cloud Deployments (session CSM2258),” will be moderated by Paul Strong,
CTO, global customer and field initiatives, VMware and will be open to audience questions. Register here to attend this session at VMworld San Francisco.

VMware Service Provider Program (VSPP) and vCloud Services
The VMware Service Provider Program (VSPP) is for partners offering cloud computing and hosted IT services built on VMware cloud infrastructure. There are
over 8,500 partners in the program to date.

VMware vCloud Services offer a broad array of VMware-compatible infrastructure clouds built on a secure platform and delivered by vCloud service providers,
enabling customers to easily extend, manage and scale their datacenter workloads to a public cloud. With more than 150 certified VMware vCloud Services in
29 countries, VMware and VSPP partners together form the number two public cloud ecosystem in the world.

Inc., a pioneer in software-defined networking (SDN) and a leader in network virtualization for open source initiatives.

“VMware has led the server virtualization revolution, and we have the opportunity to do the same in datacenter and cloud networking,” said Paul Maritz, chief
executive officer, VMware. “The acquisition of Nicira adds to our portfolio of networking assets and positions VMware to be the industry leader in software-
defined networking.”

VMware will acquire Nicira for approximately $1.05 billion in cash plus approximately $210 million of assumed unvested equity awards. The acquisition is subject
to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. The parties expect the acquisition to close during the second half of 2012. The acquisition has
been approved by the boards of directors of both VMware and Nicira and the stockholders of Nicira.

The Software-Defined Datacenter – The Foundation of Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is about agile, elastic, efficient, and reliable services, and it is achieved through sophisticated software that abstracts hardware resources,
pools it into aggregate capacity, enabling automation to safely and efficiently dole it out as needed for applications. Tenants or customers utilizing the software-
defined datacenter can have their own virtual datacenter with an isolated collection of all the compute, storage, networking, and security resources that they are
used to. Furthermore, this virtual datacenter can grow and shrink to efficiently utilize physical resources. This is what the software-defined datacenter is all
about, and it is the architecture for the cloud.

Managing networks and network services to support cloud architectures is complex, time consuming and limits the achievement of full application mobility across
clouds. Nicira is at the forefront of software-defined networking, which enables the dynamic creation of virtual network infrastructure and services that are
completely decoupled and independent from the physical network hardware. Many industry leaders, including AT&T, DreamHost, eBay, Fidelity Investments,
NTT and Rackspace are using the Nicira Network Virtualization Platform (NVP) to accelerate service delivery from weeks to minutes and dramatically reduce
complexity and cost.

“Nicira helps customers dramatically improve business velocity and efficiency by transforming how networking works in the Cloud era,” said Steve Mullaney, chief
executive officer, Nicira. “I’m thrilled to be joining forces with VMware to help build the software-defined datacenter.”

“The value we bring to customers lies in our open approach and the richness of capabilities in network virtualization,” said Martin Casado, co-founder and chief
technology officer, Nicira. “The combination of Nicira and VMware brings together two pioneering teams, and gives customers the industry leading SDN solution
for any cloud environment, on any hypervisor in the enterprise and with Service Providers.”

VMware plans to continue to support the open principles and technologies that have made Nicira solutions successful, including the Open vSwitch to connect
physical networks and multiple hypervisors and the open extensibility framework to implement business-level policies from any cloud management system. This
will allow enterprises and service providers to create the most flexible network topologies that seamlessly span any cloud environment. VMware is committed to
maintaining Nicira’s openness and bringing additional value and choices to heterogeneous environments and the OpenStack, CloudStack and other cloud
related communities.

This acquisition expands VMware’s networking portfolio, which includes the VMware vSphere® virtual switching, VMware vCloud® Director™ networking,
vShield™ Network and Security software defined services, and the VXLAN protocol to provide a full suite of software-defined networking capabilities and a
comprehensive solution lineup for virtualizing the network – from virtual switching to virtualized layer 3-7 services. This will allow customers to create a pool of
network capacity on top of any network infrastructure from which they can easily support tens of thousands of isolated virtual networks with the simplicity and
operational ease of creating and managing virtual machines.

VMware Announces Open Source Project to Enable Apache Hadoop to Run on Private and Public Clouds

Project ‘Serengeti’ and New Apache Hadoop Contributions Make VMware vSphere® the Best Platform for Elastic, Highly Available Enterprise Hadoop

VMware, Inc., the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, today announced a new open source project, Serengeti, to enable enterprises to
quickly deploy, manage and scale Apache Hadoop in virtual and cloud environments. In addition, VMware is working with the Apache Hadoop community to
contribute extensions that will make key components “virtualization-aware” to support elastic scaling and further improve Hadoop performance in virtual
environments.

"Apache Hadoop has the potential to transform business by allowing enterprises to harness very large amounts of data for competitive advantage," said Jerry
Chen, vice president, Cloud and Application Services, VMware. "It represents one dimension of a sweeping change that is taking place in applications, and
enterprises are looking for ways to incorporate these new technologies into their portfolios. VMware is working with the Apache Hadoop community to allow
enterprise IT to deploy and manage Hadoop easily in their virtual and cloud environments.”

Apache Hadoop is emerging as the de facto standard for big data processing, however, deployment and operational complexity, the need for dedicated
hardware, and concerns about security and service level assurance prevent many enterprises from leveraging the power of Hadoop. By decoupling Apache
Hadoop nodes from the underlying physical infrastructure, VMware can bring the benefits of cloud infrastructure – rapid deployment, high-availability, optimal
resource utilization, elasticity, and secure multi-tenancy – to Hadoop.

Available for free download under the Apache 2.0 license, Serengeti is a “one-click” deployment toolkit that allows enterprises to leverage the VMware
vSphere® platform to deploy a highly available Apache Hadoop cluster in minutes, including common Hadoop components like Apache Pig and Apache Hive.
By using Serengeti to run Hadoop on VMware vSphere, enterprises can easily leverage the high-availability, fault tolerance and live migration capabilities of the
world’s most trusted, widely deployed virtualization platform to enable the availability and manageability of Hadoop clusters.

“Hadoop must become friendly with the technologies and practices of enterprise IT if it is to become a first-class citizen within enterprise IT infrastructure. The
resource-intensive nature of large Big Data clusters make virtualization an important piece that Hadoop must accommodate,” said Tony Baer, Principal Analyst at
OVUM. “VMware’s involvement with the Apache Hadoop project and its new Serengeti Apache project are critical moves that could provide enterprises the
flexibility that they will need when it comes to prototyping and deploying Hadoop.”

VMware is working with the leading Apache Hadoop distribution vendors, including Cloudera, Greenplum, Hortonworks, IBM and MapR to support a wide range
of distributions.

Virtualization Extensions, Spring Updates Help Enterprises Build and Operate Big Data Applications

To further simplify and speed enterprise use of Apache Hadoop, VMware is working with the Apache Hadoop community to contribute changes to the Hadoop
Distributed File System (HDFS) and Hadoop MapReduce projects to make them “virtualization-aware,” so that data and compute jobs can be optimally
distributed across a virtual infrastructure. These changes will enable enterprises to achieve a more elastic, secure and high available Hadoop cluster.

VMware is also announcing updates to Spring for Apache Hadoop, an open source project first launched in February of 2012 to make it easy for enterprise
developers to build distributed processing solutions with Apache Hadoop. These updates allow Spring developers to easily build enterprise applications that
integrate with the HBase database, the Cascading library, and Hadoop security. Spring for Apache Hadoop is free to downloadand available now under the
open source Apache 2.0 license.

Together, these projects and contributions are designed to help accelerate Hadoop adoption and enable enterprises to leverage big data analytics applications,
such as Cetas, to obtain real-time, intelligent insight into large quantities of data.

that of an identical physical system 1.

Sybase has never asked its customers to reproduce on physical configurations, provided the virtual environment is certified by the operating system vendor and
that operating system is certified by SAP/Sybase, which is unique within the virtualization industry.

Sybase has offered the licensing of a Sybase product on a subset of the CPUs available on a physical machine (sub-capacity licensing) on VMware for Sybase
ASE and Sybase IQ products since 2010, helping customers realize the cost effectiveness of virtualization. These test results present another strong step
toward demonstrating the commitment to validating and optimizing these solutions to work together seamlessly.

Parag Patel, vice president, Global Strategic Alliances, VMware
“Virtualizing databases is a vital part of an organization’s journey to the cloud as they shift from running business-critical applications on physical infrastructure to
full virtualization. We are pleased to continue to work with SAP to help ensure our customers have the confidence to successfully virtualize SAP’s portfolio of
Sybase solutions to transform their businesses with high-performing, agile and cost-effective IT infrastructure."

able to be brought inside the Socialcast network so customer ideas and feedback can be discussed and refined. As part of a social enterprise platform,
Socialcast enables real-time, in-context conversations and collaboration tools from enterprise applications into the activity stream, providing employees access to

VMware Announces New Services to Help IT Leaders Drive Business Value through IT Transformation

VMware Accelerate Advisory Services will focus on partnering with customers to help measure, define and guide a successful IT course through the Cloud Era

VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, today announced the formation of VMware Accelerate Advisory
Services, a group of former Chief Information Officers (CIOs), Chief Technology Officers (CTOs) and industry consultants, dedicated to enabling senior enterprise
business and IT executives to deepen their understanding of how cloud computing can deliver business value across an organization.

Leveraging VMware's thought leadership, market experience and resources, Accelerate addresses the increasing role IT organizations play in the overall
effectiveness of business outcomes. These new services, the result from years of work with hundreds of clients, provide for the first time custom methods to help
accelerate IT and business transformation in areas such as:

Meaningful measurement. Accelerate empowers CIOs and other IT leaders to determine what Key Performance Indexes (KPIs) are required to quantify, measure
and analyze the organizations journey to virtualization and cloud implementation, and combines that with a body of data to help benchmark performance relative
to peers and industry bests.

Market perspective.Informed by direct learning gained from VMware technology deployments across the globe, as well as a deep ecosystem of more than
50,000 partners, Accelerate provides context and helps define how and why IT is leading the way in defining this type of business transformation.

Actionable strategy. As analysts point to a need for CIO’s and other IT leaders to focus more on business issues rather than technical matters, Accelerate
connects the critical points needed to guide IT toward truly affect business value across an entire organization.

"IT’s most important mission is creating business value, and having the right IT strategy is already determining winners and losers in many industries," said Carl
Eschenbach, VMware chief operating officer and co-president. "VMware Accelerate helps IT leadership measure, define and guide the transition from
technology steward to business partner, so IT can most effectively help business serve customers and create competitive advantage.”

Built upon VMware’s rich virtualization benchmark data and understanding of the current and best-in-class IT transformation performance indicators, a key
element of Accelerate will be providing IT executives with a strong, fact-based approach for assessing their progress toward achieving a cloud infrastructure and
shaping the overall business.

In addition, today VMware announced it has acquired certain assets of Virginia-based Info Tech Health Check (iTHC), which will enhance Accelerate’s already
robust benchmarking service. Specific key benefits will include:

The addition of 3,500 metrics, building a view that includes multiple perspectives which enable an exercise that is relevant and focused.

The inclusion of 20 industries, providing insight into a broader set of comparisons across organizations and functional peers.

Data covering four key geographies, giving an all-important perspective of international business operations and challenges.

The benchmarking capabilities brought together by VMware and iTHC will also align and complement VMware’s overall services strategy and partner community
investments. For example, VMware will be working with select consulting and integration partners on extending their cloud advisory service capabilities and
leveraging the iTHC assets and Accelerate. Additionally, a broader set of IT Business Management (ITBM) services and products will be offered to partners with
established ITBM and IT Strategy practices.

"In today’s market environment, business and technology strategies have become inextricably intertwined, especially with the expanded role IT is being asked
to play in managing increasingly complex enterprise resource planning systems," said Peter Blatman, principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP. “Successful IT
leadership, then, means gathering and leveraging the best, most comprehensive information to drive the right balance between capabilities and costs in a way
that ultimately creates more business value."

The Accelerate services are the result of a knowledge base derived from years of delivering VMware services and technology to hundreds of clients. These
close partnerships underscored the need for a more targeted look at the transition CIOs and other IT leaders are experiencing, as a result of IT moving toward
an infrastructure defined by virtualization and cloud computing, as well as how IT teams are managing services more closely aligned with business strategy.

“Historically, enterprise IT organizations have been the builders and managers of the physical IT infrastructure supporting business processes,” said Paul Lewis,
vice president of Technology, Architecture and Security at the financial services solutions provider Davis + Henderson Corporation. “What we’ve worked with
VMware and the Accelerate team on, is how I can look to shift my team’s view of metrics from things like availability and uptime, and more toward IT’s
contribution to business growth; the ability to speed innovation; improving customer satisfaction; and lowering risk and cost.”

Availability
VMware Accelerate Advisory Services are immediately available in North America, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, as well as China, Australia, Japan
and across Southeast Asia. These services also will be available more broadly in Europe and Asia during the second half of 2012.

VMware Announces Spring 3.1 Release Compatibility, Open Source Framework More Popular than Ever

Spring Framework 3.1 Adds Key Innovations for Cloud, Big Data, and Mobile Applications

VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, today announced all the major extensions to the Spring Framework are
now compatible with Spring 3.1, the latest version of the popular open source Java development framework. Spring Integration, Spring Security, Spring Batch,
Spring Data, Spring Mobile and Spring for Android all now support Spring 3.1, making it easier and faster for enterprise developers to build the next generation of
enterprise applications.

"Driving application development for today’s enterprises with powerful simplifying technology, Spring is the premier choice for developers looking for an
extensible, portable and open source framework,” said Adrian Colyer, CTO Cloud and Application Services, VMware. "The latest release of the Spring
Framework and its major extensions continue the tradition of taking care of the infrastructure so developers can focus on building applications that address
today’s business requirements."

The Spring Framework makes it easy for enterprise developers to integrate security models, databases, web services and messaging systems into applications
that can be deployed and thrive within any Java environment. Spring makes it simple to access enterprise information stored in traditional databases as well as
new NoSQL data platforms and “big data” distributed processing solutions like Apache Hadoop™. With the addition of new REST enhancements, Java
developers can use Spring to build the critical services to mobilize enterprise applications.

VMware reports that average monthly Spring downloads via Maven Central have grown 40% year to date and all community participation metrics for Spring are
at the highest levels ever recorded. Recent research from Evans Data ("Spring Usage Study," Evans Data Corporation, September 2011) analyzes the ubiquity
achieved by Spring:

Spring is the framework of choice among expert Java developers

Spring developers report productivity and speed of deployment as the top two reasons they use Spring: 70 percent of Spring users report at least a 50
percent productivity gain by using Spring and 73 percent report that Spring allows them to deliver projects twice as fast

More than two thirds of Java developers are either using Spring today or plan to do so within the next two years

More than half of Spring users expect to grow or significantly grow their use of Spring

Spring users are more cloud ready; The Evans Data results show heavy Spring adopters are more likely to have already deployed applications to the cloud

More than half of all Spring developers report that they plan to move Java applications to a lightweight server such as Apache Tomcat within one year.

Spring community members are invited to attend the SpringOne On the Roadevent in Europe in April and May to learn about the newest innovations for the
framework. These special developer-focused one-day events will be co-hosted with the Cloud Foundry Open Tour.

Availability
The Spring family of open source projects can be found on the Spring community Web site at www.springsource.org. Spring projects are available under the
Apache 2.0 open-source, free software license.
